Daniel Sanchez first worked in clay, then in wood.  Studying the work of architects Santiago Calatrava and Zaha Hadid, and discovering the sculpture of Antoine Poncet marked a fundamental stage in his artistic approach. He began looking for new materials to express himself, and decided to work with stone, marble in particular.

He regularly visits  the quarries in the Pyrenees (Saint Beat, Cierp, Sarrancolin, Yzaourt, etc.) in search of the rare blocks that already contain his future works, which he is determined to extract and reveal. From then on, his figurative work evolved into more abstract creations.

Constantly seeking balance, proportion and volume, playing with veins and colours, he establishes an intimate dialogue with stone, seeking to reveal both the delicacy and the strength of the material. He observes the movements and shapes of nature, which he tries to retranscribe by purifying the lines to keep only the essential.  The harmonious lines of the outer silhouettes hint at the inner structure. In this way, he builds a parallel with existence and invites us to reflect: .

External form, that which we see…

Inner structure, that which we are.

With great rigour, great sensitivity and infinite skill, he proceeds to the delicate work of sanding to bring a unique touch while exalting the subtleties contained in the material.

Whether monumental or of more modest dimensions, Daniel Sanchez’s works take over the space, capture the light and exude a strong presence charged with great emotional intensity.
